The funeral arrangements for the late Shay Lynch have been confirmed.
Shay is urvived by his heartbroken family, parents James and Tania, sister Abi, grandparents Jerome, Joe and Kathleen, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, neighbours and his many friends.
Reposing in Mc Mahon’s Funeral Home, Blackwater, this Tuesday (23rd April) from 5pm to 7pm. Arriving for funeral Mass on Wednesday (24th April) in St. Senan’s Church, Clonlara, at 11am followed by burial afterwards in St Thomas’ Church grounds, Bridgetown.
Update: The young boy who died tragically at a hotel swimming pool in Ballina on Saturday has been named as Shay Lynch from O’Briensbridge. Shay is survived by his parents James and Tania and sister Abi.
In a statement on Sunday night, the Donnchadh Kelleher principal of Scoil Seanáin Naofa in Clonlara described the seven-year-old as a “beloved pupil”.
“Our school community has experienced the tragic death of our beloved pupil, Shay Lynch. Shay is a much loved 1st Class pupil in Scoil Seanáin Naofa.
His bright smile and his kind heart endeared him to everyone in our school community. He will be greatly missed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his parents Tania and James, his sister Abi, the extended family and his wide circle of friends.
Offers of support have been pouring in and are greatly appreciated. Our school has implemented our Critical Incident Management Plan. We are liaising with the National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS) to ensure support structures are in place to help our school community cope with this tragedy.

A young boy has died following a tragic accident at a swimming pool this afternoon.
Emergency services were alerted shortly after 3.00pm to an unfolding incident in Killaloe/Ballina.
Gardaí, National Ambulance Service (NAS) paramedics and units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Killaloe station responded to the incident. The Athlone based Emergency Aeromedical Service (EAS) air ambulance was also requested to attend the incident.
The Killaloe unit of the Irish Coast Guard was also tasked to secure a landing site for the helicopter.
The child, reported to be 7 years old, was recovered from the water and attempts to resuscitate him were carried out. It was decided that the child should be removed by road ambulance to University Hospital Limerick for further treatment. The child was later pronounced dead.
The local coroner was advised of the tragedy while a postmortem examination will be carried out. A full investigation into the circumstances of the accident will also be undertaken.
It’s understood that the boy had been attending a birthday party at the facility at the time. The swimming pool was closed following the tragedy.
A Garda spokesman confirmed: “Gardaí and emergency services responded to an incident at a swimming pool on a premises in Killaloe, Co Clare, shortly before 3pm on Saturday, April 20th.”
“A seven-year-old boy was transported from the scene to University Hospital Limerick, where he was later pronounced deceased.”
