Over the last two weekends Cullaun Sailing club has been a hive of activity when it hosted 26 boats in the Munster Gp14 sailing Competition and last Weekend Cullaun Sailing Club celebrated their Club of the year award with a visit from Golden Globe Sailor Pat Lawless.
Pat plans to sail around the world non stop in 2026 as part of the Golden Globe Series of Races. Pat started sailing with his father when he was just seven years of age and he said that he wished that there was more facilities like Cullaun Sailing Club when he was younger to allow people to get involved in sailing and all forms of watersports. Pat Lawless Senior was involved with Iniscealtra Sailing Club in Mountshannon in the late 1960’s
The rain that fell in the morning did not dampen the spirits of all that turned out to celebrate the event. Members old and new called down to the club to see how much it has changed over the last few years and to learn about the new courses and equipment that were unveiled.
The Three new Hartley 12 boats and new safety boat that we received this year are thanks to the had working club members that applied for grant aid. The club received €24,504 under the Sports Capital Equipment Grant
The Sports Capital Grant program, administered by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, supports the development and refurbishment of sports facilities and the provision of sports equipment. Cullaun Sailing Club’s project, among others, demonstrates the program’s impact on enhancing sports infrastructure at the local level
For the next six weeks Cullaun Sailing club will be involved in teaching summer camps for Children between the ages of ten and eighteen which will make the club a real busy spot for the Summer
