Women’s Health Week Launched by Rosie Foley and Killaloe Students

Women in County Clare are being encouraged to prioritise their health and wellbeing during Women’s Health Week 2026, taking place from Monday, September 28 to Sunday, October 4.

A wide-ranging programme of activities has been organised across the county to support women at every stage of life under this year’s theme, ‘Strong at Every Age – Strong Bones. Strong Hearts. Strong Minds.’

Led by Clare County Council and delivered in partnership with the Clare Sports Partnership, HSE and Tusla, the initiative aims to empower girls, teenagers and women of all ages with the knowledge, confidence and practical supports needed to build and maintain lifelong health and wellbeing.

A dedicated schools programme for teenage girls will take place in secondary schools across Clare throughout the week, focusing on menstrual health, self-confidence and mental wellbeing through interactive sessions that encourage healthy habits and positive wellbeing. For adult women, community-based events across the county will explore bone and cardiovascular health, nutrition, exercise, strength training and healthy ageing, with expert-led talks and practical sessions promoting active, healthy lifestyles at every stage of life.

Women’s Health Week 2026 in Clare will also feature a special week-long series of discussions on Morning Focus on Clare FM, with expert contributors addressing key aspects of women’s health.

Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, Cllr Joe Killeen said, “The range of events taking place throughout the county reflects a shared commitment to supporting healthier communities and ensuring women of all ages have access to information, encouragement and opportunities to improve their wellbeing. I encourage women and girls across Clare to get involved and make the most of the week’s activities.”

Healthy Ireland Coordinator with Clare County Council, Joan Tarmey said, “Women’s Health Week is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the importance of looking after our health at every age and stage of life. We are delighted to be working with our partners to deliver a diverse programme that will engage women and girls right across County Clare.”

Women’s Health Week Ambassador, former Irish Rugby international, and open water swimmer, Rosie Foley said, “I am proud to support Women’s Health Week and the ‘Strong at Every Age’ message, which encourages women to prioritise their health and wellbeing. It was a pleasure to be joined by students and teachers at St Anne’s Community College, Killaloe, in launching this year’s programme. Young people play an important role in promoting positive health message, and I encourage women across Clare to take part in the events and invest in their health and wellbeing.”

Acting CEO at Clare Local Sports Partnership, Pat Sexton said, “The benefits of sport and physical activity extend far beyond fitness, helping to support better physical health, mental wellbeing and stronger community connections. We are proud to support Women’s Health Week and encourage women across the county to avail of the free events, sponsored by Clare County Council and Healthy Ireland, and discover ways to be Strong at Every Age.”

Chairperson of Healthy Clare Working Group and HSE Senior Health Promotion and Improvement Officer, Mary McMahon said, “The week provides an important platform for promoting positive health messages and encouraging women to make informed choices about their wellbeing. Through education, physical activity and community engagement, Women’s Health Week helps women to better understand the factors that influence their health and equips them with practical knowledge that can support healthier lives.”
