Search underway for missing fisherman

1.50pm – The missing man is understood to be a Russian national in is 40’s who had been living in the Limerick area.

Members of Kilkee Sub Aqua Club have also joined the search while Killaloe Coast Guard are also on standby to assist if required.

4.00pm – Divers spent about 40 minutes diving in the area where the man is thought to have fallen into the sea.
As conditions deteriorated the search was called off for the day and is expected to resume early tomorrow.

 Earlier: A land, air and sea search is underway after a fisherman was reported to have been swept into the sea in Co Clare this morning.

It’s understood the man in his forties was fishing in the Pulleen Bay near Doonbeg.

A second man is believed to have raised the alarm at around 9.00am. Gardaí and the Irish Coast Guard were alerted a major search was launched.

The Shannon based search and rescue helicopter was sent to the scene while the Kilkee and Doolin units of the Coast Guard were also tasked.

The helicopter has been carrying searches along the coast between Kilkee and Doonbeg while boats are also searching Pulleen Bay.

Coast Guard volunteers and Gardaí are combing the cliff top and shoreline in search of any trace of the man.

The search is being coordinated by the staff at the Irish Coast Guard marine rescue sub centre in Valentia.
