In the lead up to the Easter bank holiday weekend, the Coast Guard, RNLI and Water Safety Ireland have issued a joint water safety appeal and are asking people to take some basic precautions to stay safe when they visit the coast or participate in water activities, be it coastal or inland.

An elderly man is recovering in hospital after he was discovered in a smoke-logged house in East Clare early today.

Gardaí attached to the Limerick Divisional Drug Unit, supported by Gardaí from Mayorstone, Regional Dog Unit and members of the Defence Forces, carried out a number of searches in Corbally, Co Limerick and Clonlara, Co Clare as part of Operation Tara, targeting the distribution of controlled drugs in the Limerick area.
