East Clare events to celebrate St Brigid and Imbolc

Tourism East Clare announces a series of Imbolc events to celebrate St Brigid’s Day and the official start of Spring. The events will take place between Saturday, 27th January and Thursday, 8th February at locations across East Clare.

The network has collaborated with local businesses and the community to bring a diverse series of thoughtfully curated events that are designed to celebrate the essence of this ancient Celtic tradition.

Highlighted events in the Imbolc Festival include poetry workshops, a dawn walk, meditation, a talk on Killaloe’s Sheela-na-Gig, yoga with views of Lough Derg, and a guided walk followed by a talk on all things herbal.

Arlene White, Chairperson of Tourism East Clare said: “Building on our success as the Overall Winner in the Community Tourism Initiative category at the 2023 IPB Pride of Place Awards, our Imbolc events further our commitment to promoting sustainable tourism development in East Clare.

“By encouraging local businesses and organisations to harness their skills, interests, knowledge, and community connections for active participation in Imbolc and all Wheel of the Year celebrations, our goal is to cultivate a vibrant and inclusive environment. This not only serves to showcase the richness of our cultural heritage but also nurtures sustainable tourism practices, underpinning the wealth of offerings in East Clare.”

The Imbolc Celebration is a continuation of the Wheel of the Year festivities hosted by the tourism network based on the ancient Celtic calendar of festivals. These events showcase the collaboration between members of the Visit East Clare network, local businesses, and the local community.

Christine O’Brien, Secretary of Tourism East Clare said: “The active engagement from the local community in our events not only enriches our festivities but also highlights the vibrant spirit of collaboration that defines our community, creating a memorable experience for locals and visitors alike.”
