Following a sold-out run at Dublin’s Project Arts Centre in December 2015, the award-winning adaptation of James Joyce’s The Dead takes to the glór stage on February 2nd.
Described as a beautiful, heart-warming and at times, very funny production of James Joyce’s best known short story. The emotion and melodies of Joyce’s beautiful story are captured in a stage version that is by turns theatrical, hilarious and tragic. Four singers accompanied by a string quartet conjure all the humour and heartbreak of a family gathering on a snowy night in Dublin, in an acclaimed production that takes us on a journey exploring life, love and death.
The cast of The Dead features some of Ireland’s most exciting talent including Clare Barrett (Rough Magic’s The Train, Druid Shakespeare, I ♥ Alice ♥ I) Kate Gilmore (The Train, Fair City), Ruth McGill (Anna Karenina, Donegal at the Abbey Theatre, Threepenny Opera, Sweeney Todd at The Gate) and baritone Rory Musgrave (Rough Magic’s Phaedra, National Symphony Orchestra Recital Series, Susanna’s Secret, Kilkenny Arts Festival, Guglielmo Ratcliff, Wexford Festival Opera).
Acclaimed Irish composer Ellen Cranitch, (Lyric FM), and award-winning playwright Tom Swift have created a vivid musical telling of one of the greatest short stories ever written. Presented by one of Ireland’s best-loved theatre companies, award-winning The Performance Corporation and acclaimed theatre producer Breda Cashe, The Dead is skillfully directed by Jo Mangan, in this beautiful version of Joyce’s masterpiece.
