12th Concertina Cruinniú in Miltown Malbay from Friday

The 12th Concertina Cruinniú organised by Oidhreacht an Chláir, with continued support from the Arts Council, will be held on February 9-11, comprising classes for all grades, lectures and recitals, and free public sessions.

The Gala Concert on Saturday 10, at 8.30 pm in the Community Centre, will feature, for the first time in Miltown, the renowned group ALTAN Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Daithí Sproule, Martin Tourish, Ciarán Curran, Mark Kelly and Clare Friel, preceded by Pádraic Keane and Andrea Pelandri.

The lectures and recitals include:

Remembering Howard Marshall (author of Out of Darkness), with Ben Taylor and tunes from Liam O’Brien and Sean Neylon, followed by the Clare launch of “What Ireland can teach the world about music and other essays” by Toner Quinn, with readings from the book and tunes from Toner, Malachy Burke (Fiddle) and Stephen McFarlane (Guitar)

(Friday, 8.30 pm, Community Centre).

Lecture – Dr  Aoife Granville “Contemporary Thoughts on Irish Traditional Music and Song” (Saturday, 2.30pm, Community Centre), and (3) an intimate short Concert in The Listening Room featuring Noel Hill & Seán Óg Potts.

(Saturday, 5.00-6.00pm, Westbridge).              

Free public sessions:

Saturday, 3.00pm-4.30pm: Open Junior Session led by Liam O’Brien & Bríd O’Donohue (St Joseph’s National School)

Open Intermediate Session led by Josephine Marsh & Bernie Geraghty (Community Centre)

Open Adult Session led by Claire Keville & John Weir (Clancy’s Bar).

Sunday, 2.30pm-5.30pm: Songs and Tunes with Tim Dennehy, Róisín White, Máire Ní Ghráda, Déirdre Scanlon & Maeve Donnelly (The Forge at the Players Bar), plus Cosán Ceoil (Friday & Saturday nights, 10.00pm in selected pubs).
