As of today (September 1st) passengers flying from airports in the EU will not be permitted to carry liquids, aerosols and gels in containers greater than 100ml in their cabin baggage. All liquid, aerosol and gels must be stored in containers of 100ml or less.
The European Commission has introduced a temporary liquid restriction at airports within the European Union. As different airports have different levels of security screening and technology, passengers are advised to check the liquid restrictions locally at each airport as part of their trip.
Travellers may be required to place their 100ml liquids in plastic bags when entering some airports as part of their trip such as a transit flight or on a return flight.
There are two exceptions to the rules:
- Baby food needed during the flight.
- Medicines needed during the flight.
At Shannon Airport however, while passengers will still have to comply with the 100ml rule, they will not be required to place those liquid containers in plastic bags or remove them from your cabin baggage.
Electronics items, such as laptops and phones do not need to be removed from cabin baggage when flying from Shannon Airport.
In October 2021, Shannon Airport became the first in Ireland and among the first in the world to introduce technology making the removal of laptops and liquids from cabin bags a thing of the past.
A €2.5 million investment in a state-of-the-art security screening system and advanced security scanning equipment means that a passenger’s journey through security at Shannon is made quicker and easier.
