Aontú leader to address Public Meeting in Kilrush

Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín will join Aontú Clare representative June Dillon for a major public meeting in Kilrush on Monday, May 11th at 7:30pm in Kilrush Golf Club, a key opportunity for local people to have their voices heard on the issues that matter most.

This meeting is expected to be a significant event for the West Clare community, focusing on the growing concerns that many feel are being ignored, from the rising cost of living to the steady decline of rural towns and services.

Aontú is encouraging strong attendance on the night, as the meeting will provide a genuine platform for open discussion, direct engagement, and real political accountability.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Dillon said: “People across Clare are frustrated and feel let down. They see their roads deteriorating, a lack of basic infrastructure like footpaths and traffic calming, and little meaningful investment in their communities. At the same time, families and businesses are under relentless pressure from rising fuel and electricity costs.”

Dillon said that these are not abstract political issues, but daily realities for people trying to live, work, and raise families in Clare: “We are hearing from small business owners in Kilrush who are struggling to keep their doors open. We are hearing from families who feel that ‘middle Ireland’ is being squeezed harder than ever. We are hearing from farmers who feel unsupported and from communities concerned about crime, antisocial behaviour, and drug activity.”

She added that concerns around rural regeneration, the imbalance of investment between large towns and villages, and local issues such as wind turbine developments in parts of West Clare will also be addressed.

“These are the issues Aontú is actively working on and lobbying government to act upon, but we need the voices of the people behind that. This meeting is about giving people that voice.”

Earlier that day, Tóibín and Dillon will also be meeting members of the public in:

Broadford – 3:00pm at The Country Store

Ennis – 4:45pm at O’Connell St.,

These stops will offer people in those areas a chance to raise concerns and speak directly with Aontú representatives ahead of the evening meeting.

Dillon concluded with a strong call to action saying: “If you are concerned about the direction your community is heading, if you feel rural Clare is being neglected, or if you want to see real change, I would urge you to come to Kilrush on May 11th. Your voice matters, and this is your opportunity to make it heard.”
