Missing woman found safe during search

A multi-agency search for a young woman reported missing in East Clare has been stood down after she was found safe and well this afternoon.

The 19-year-old non-Irish national was found in a densely wooded area near Dereney on the Clare/Galway border this afternoon by members of the Killaloe unit of the Irish Coast Guard.

The woman, who had been living with relatives near Whitegate, was reported missing after she failed to return home last night.

Gardaí were notified and mounted an initial search of the area and requested assistance from other agencies. Volunteers from Killaloe Coast Guard and Clare Civil Defence were mobilised to assist in the search operation early this morning.

Members of the Limerick Land Search Team and a Civil Defence K-9 unit from Co Tipperary were also on their way to the area when they were stood down while the Shannon-based Irish Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115, was also ready assist.

Civil Defence members used drones as part of the search while a handler and two dogs from the volunteer Search and Rescue Dog Association (SARDA) were also involved in the search effort.

The woman was found at around 12.45pm in thick forestry by Coast Guard volunteers searching the area in an all-terrain vehicle (ATV).

She was transported by ATV to a Civil Defence ambulance where paramedics were waiting to assess her.
