Man dies after N18 accident

– The N18 at Cratloekeel has reopened following the fatal accident earlier.

– Gardaí have confirmed that a man seriously injured in a road traffic collision in East Clare this morning has died in hospital.

The man in his 40s died sustained serious injuries in the single-vehicle collision and was rushed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment but was pronounced dead at short time later.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

In particular, any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N18 at Cratloekeel between 11:45am and 12pm are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

The N18 dual-carriageway is closed southbound on approach to the Limerick Tunnel following a serious road traffic collision.

The N18 dual-carriageway is closed southbound at Cratloekeel before the turn-off for the Radisson Hotel following a serious road traffic collision.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at around 11.55 between junction 5 Cratloe and junction 4 Cratloemoyle. One person is reported to have been critically injured.

Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Shannon and Limerick City attended the incident along with National Ambulance Service resources and Gardaí.

The southbound lanes of the dual-carriageway have been closed and traffic is being diverted off the route at junction 5. Any motorists caught up in the traffic tailback are being turned back up on the slip-road at junction 5 and away from the scene.

Traffic is also being diverted off the route at junction 9.

No further details on the incident are available however it’s expected the road will be closed for several hours. The collision occurred in Co Clare but within the area covered by the Limerick Garda Division.
