Three people are being treated in hospital following a serious road traffic collision in East Clare this evening.
The two car crash occurred at around 7.15pm on the R352 Ennis to Scarriff road at Cutteen More near Tulla.
Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis station responded along with a number of National Ambulance Service resources and GardaÃ.
Following the collision, one car collided with a ditched and rolled over several times before coming to a stop. Fire crews had to used specialist cutting equipment to remove sections of both cars so they could safely free the injured.
The male driver and young female passenger from one car as well as the male driver of the second vehicle, have been transported to University Hospital Limerick for treatment. The extent of their injuries is not known.
A section of the road between Lisofin and the junction of the Tulla to Kilkishen road, was closed while emergency service dealt with the incident.
The route was reopened at around 9.30pm after both vehicles had been recovered from the scene and the road cleared of debris and engine fluids which had been spread over a 50 metre stretch.
Gardaà are investigating the circumstances of the collision.
