Students seeking to highlight how climate change threatens the future of the planet, will hold a protest in O’Connell Square in Ennis this Friday.
‘Fridays for Future Clare’, a student-led group, will be hold the day of peaceful demonstration that will consist of a school strike and a general strike.
The organisers say: “Everyone is welcome, everyone is required if we want to make an impact. Part of the day will include a street classroom, at which students and speakers will turn the tables and teach the public and politicians about how climate change threatens our existence as a species.”
“As the young generation we must do everything we can to protect our planet, to ensure that when we inherit this Earth, we will still have an inhabitable planet to live on. We are the future. We are being threatened by inaction and ignorance. Join us on Friday to take action, and to tackle ignorance,” a spokesperson said.
The protest schedule is:
10-12:30 – General striking/demonstration at the Height ins Ennis
12:30-13:30 – Presentations at the height
13:30-15:00 – Street classroom in the market
15:00-15:30 – General striking/demonstration at the Height
15:30-16:00 – March from the market to county council building
