Multi-vehicle collision on M18 cleared

No injuries have been reported following a multi-vehicle incident in thick fog on the M18 close to the Dromoland interchange this morning.

Three cars are understood to have been involved in the collision which occurred at around the 8.00am almost beneath the flyover at junction 11.

The circumstances are not entirely clear, however. Traffic Infrastructure Ireland (TII) reported on X (formerly Twitter) that the incident involved a flat tyre/blow-out.

When TII motorway maintenance crews arrived, they found three cars had been involved with two stopped in grass median.

Gardaí arrived and spoke with the three drivers all of whom were uninjured.

Gardaí were able to move the two cars clear of the median to the safety of the hard shoulder while TII crews cleared debris and engine fluids from the motorway.

The vehicles were only recovered from the scene at 11.20am, over three hours after the incident had occurred.
