Status Yellow Wind Warning in place until tonight

Update:

6.30pm – Power has been restored to almost 780 customers in the Kilrush area after a fault was reported earlier.

5.20pm – Power has now been restored to all customers in East Clare affected by the earlier outage.

2.45pm – Power outages have been reported in several parts of Clare while a number of other faults have been resolved.

At 2.45pm, 76 customers were still without power in East Clare. The affected areas are  Kilrateera where power is expected to be restored by 3.30pm while customers in the area of Tuamgraney could be without power until 5.00pm.

72 customers who had been without electricity in the Liscannor have had their power restored.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow Wind Warning the entire country.

Forecasters say northwest winds will be very strong at times while high waves are also expected.

The warning was initially issued for Clare, Kerry all of Connacht as well as Donegal but has since been extended to cover the whole country.

Met Éireann is warning of potential impacts including wave overtopping; debris, loose objects displaced as well as difficult driving and cycling conditions

The warning will take effect at midnight and remain in place until 8.00pm on Thursday.

Thursday

Today will be very windy across Munster with strong to near gale force, gusty west to northwest winds and with gales near coasts. High seas on Atlantic coasts with potential for wave overtopping. It will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees.

Thursday Night

Tonight will continue windy and mostly cloudy with further outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Fresh to strong, gusty west to northwest winds will moderate somewhat towards morning. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees.

Friday

Friday will continue mostly cloudy and quite windy with fresh to strong, gusty west to northwest winds and with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. A few brighter intervals also, these most likely in the south and east of the region. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees.

A Small Craft warning is already in place for all coasts of Ireland with west to northwest winds expected to reach force 6 or higher.
