Motorists warned to slow down in poor weather

Clare County Council is advising motorists to slow down and drive with extreme caution due to continued heavy rainfall across County Clare.

Spot flooding is reported on numerous routes, particularly throughout West Clare.

There are reports of spot flooding in the following areas.

Kilkee, Ennis to Ennistymon road, Shannon Airport (access road from end of dual-carriageway).

Met Éireann is forecasting further falls of heavy rain today, tonight and into Saturday.

Another 30 to 40mm of rainfall are expected, with greater totals on some higher ground.

Meanwhile, firefighters have been battling to prevent two homes in Shannon from flooding.

Members of Shannon fire service set up floating pumps in an effort to drain water from the two properties at Dún An Óir in the town. Both are known to flood regularly at times of heavy rain.
