Tour de Burren returns with exciting new route options

The Burren Cycling Club is thrilled to announce the triumphant return of the iconic Tour de Burren, Ireland’s beloved cycle sportive, scheduled for Saturday, June 22nd, 2024.

Cyclists from near and far are invited to join us in Barefield, County Clare, as we embark on an exhilarating journey through the stunning landscapes of the Burren Geopark and along the breath-taking coastal roads.

As one of Ireland’s most iconic cycle sportives, the Tour de Burren promises an exhilarating day of cycling adventure, scenic beauty, and unforgettable camaraderie.

Year after year, the Tour de Burren brings together cycling enthusiasts from across the globe, uniting over 2,000 participants in a shared passion for exploration and adventure on two wheels.

This year’s event, organised by the Burren Cycling Club, offers cyclists of all levels and ability the opportunity to experience the breath-taking countryside of the Burren Geopark and the Wild Atlantic Way.

Participants can choose from a variety of routes tailored to suit their preferences and abilities, including:

– The Wild Burren Way (160KM): A challenging route that showcases the rugged beauty of the Burren landscape.

– The Aillwee Route (110KM): A scenic journey through the heart of the Burren Geopark, offering stunning views and rewarding climbs.

– The Giants Playground (75KM): An adventurous route that explores the wonders of the Burren with exhilarating descents and rolling hills.

– Dromore Family Spin (22KM): A family-friendly route designed for cyclists of all ages to enjoy the beauty of Dromore together.

“We’re embarking on a new chapter for the Tour de Burren, and though the event may have a fresh starting and finishing point in Barefield, our pledge to offer cyclists a top-tier experience stands firm,” Kevin Hanrahan, Chairman of the Burren Cycling Club said.

“Our mission is unwavering: to host a safe, enjoyable, and enriching event that highlights the unparalleled beauty of the Burren landscape and hospitality.”

Rated 9.7/10 by Cycling Ireland as a leisure cycle event and hailed as ‘The Best Leisure Cycling Event in Ireland’ by Cycling Ireland members, the Tour de Burren continues to set the standard for excellence in cycling sportives.
