Limerick FootballersLimerick’s footballers have been dealt a double blow ahead of Sunday’s Munster Football Championship quarter-final.

Captain Iain Corbett and midfielder Tom Lee have been ruled out of the clash which takes place in the Gaelic Grounds.

Corbett picked up a leg injury while lining out for Newcastle West in the Limerick Senior Football Championship last month. Initially it was hoped he would recover in time but the twenty three year old is expected to be on the sidelines until the end of June. In his absence St Senan’s man Ian Ryan will lead Limerick into battle.

Tom Lee has been deemed ineligible to feature for the Treaty County. The Galway native transferred from Ballylanders back to his original club Headford at the end of April and played for them in the Galway Intermediate Football Championship.

John Brudair and his Limerick management intended to exploit a loophole in the GAA’s rules that would allow Lee transfer back to Ballylanders in time for Sunday’s game. However The Limerick Leader reports that Limerick GAA officials refused to sanction his transfer over concerns of Lee’s residence. It now means Brudair will be without his first choice midfield pairing with Gearoid Hegarty throwing his lot in with TJ Ryan’s hurlers for 2016.
