Clooney Quin 3-9 Truagh Clonlara 2-12

Conditions were perfect in Clooney, with a bright sky where the Truagh team were ready to take on the Green and Red of Clooney-Quin.

The opening score of the game came from play by Louise Egan followed by scores from Aine O’Loughlin, Michelle Powell and a goal from Roisin Begley. Truaghs scores from play were answered by two converted frees from Deirdre Murphy, and a point from play from Marie Halpin. Clooney took over and in a purple patch of play, both Orlaith Dugan and Deirdre Murphy rattled the net.

Ellen Horgan scored a final point from play for Truagh in the first half after a perfect pass from Eimear Kelly. The last scores for Clooney were yet to come however, with a third goal from Deirdre Murphy and another point from play, and ended with a free which she also converted. This brought the half time score to Clooney 3-6 to Truagh 1-4.

Truagh came out at half time with an attack on Clooney’s defence, started with a blocked attempt at goal by Eimear Kelly. O’Loughlin opened the second half scoring with two points from frees. Roisin Begley scored a point from play as a result of a passage of play from full back Sarah Sherlock and Michelle Caulfield. Another score for Truagh came from Hannah Horgan at wing forward to O’Louughlin and Aine scored a goal from play, answered once again by an Ellen Horgan second point from play.

Clooney’s Louise Henchy scored the first point in the second half for the girls in red and green. Another O’Loughlin free was answered by a Deirdre Murphy free on the other end of the field. Sharp shooter O’Loughlin slotted over another two points from play for Truagh bringing it to a one point game. A free awarded to Truagh in the last three minutes of the game allowed O’Loughlin the chance to level the game to leave the full time score Truagh 2-12 Clooney Quin 3-9

St Josephs 3-10 Clooney Quin 2-7

Clooney/Quin travelled to Gurteen for last Wednesdays fourth round division three league tie with St. Josephs. There wasn’t much between the sides throughout, it was nip and tuck with just the minimum between the sides with ten minutes remaining of the opening half.

Sinead Considine and Roisín Keogh pointed for the visitors with Ciara Whelan and Keira McGrath scoring  the homeside’s tally of 1-2. Clooney/Quin hit 1-3 without reply in the closing minutes to go three points clear 1-5 to 1-2 at the interval.
It took the winners a while to hit the target, but were soon back on level terms with a goal by Keira McGrath.

Both sides exchanged points midway through the second half, with scores from Hannah Meaney, Keira McGrath, Roisín Keogh and Sinead Considine,
before Ciara Duggan and Keira McGrath pointed for the homeside.  Clooney/Quin slotted a goal in the 24th minute of the game, but it was not enough as the parish closed out the encounter scoring 1-3 in the final minutes of the game to secure a win.

Laura Hayes, Keira McGrath and Ciara Whelan worked hard throughout while Sinead Considine and Roisín Keogh got through some good work for Clooney/Quin.

Kilmaley 7-7 St Josephs 6-6

An entertaining game in the junior b league in Kilmaley last Sunday saw the homeside
came out on top with four points to spare as they hit two late quick fire goals to secure a win.
Kilmaley were first on the scoreboard with points from Emily Cahill and Caoimhe Carmody. The parish side replied with a well taken goal by Amy Lenihan, but Kilmaley tagged on 1-2 without reply mid way through the half. Lenihan and Chloe Neylon exchanged goals with Ciara Duggan (1f) & Caoimhe Carmody pointing in the closing minutes of the half. St. Joseph’s Amy Lenihan scored a point to close the gap to three as the half time scoreline read 2-5 to 2-2.

The parish opened the second half with points from Keira McGrath (2), and from here on in it was a goal feast. Kilmaley scored two within six minutes, with Laura Hayes, Ciara Duggan and the hard working Amy Lenihan scoring four more going into the final quarter of the game. Chloe Neylon (2), Ciara Duggan (1)and Lenihan(1) exchanged points once more to put St. Josephs two ahead with four minutes remaining, but Kilmaley’s Emily Cahill and Chloe Brown goaled in the final minutes to take the spoils.

Chloe Neylon, Caoimhe Carmody and Lana Browne had strong displays on the day, while Amy Lenihan, Chloe Towey and Meadhbh O’Connor got through trojan work for the parish side.

Scariff Ogonnelloe 5-2 Feakle/Killanena 2-9

Scariff Ogonnelloe travelled to Feakle for the final round of the league on Sunday evening. Scariff Ogonnelloe opened the scoring with points from Aine O’Brien and Orla Thornton before Feakle/Killanena replied with 4 points of their own.

Scariff Ogonnelloe went ahead, when a free taken by Aine O’Brien was gathered by Kealy Power and finished to the back of the net.Feakle/Killanena then had a purple patch where they scored 2-2 without reply to leave the half-time score at Scariff Ogonnelloe 1-2 Feakle/Killanena 2-6.

Feakle/Killanena scored a point to go 8 points ahead, before Scariff Ogonnelloe, had green flags raised by Aisling Corry and Aine O’Brien to reduce the deficit to 2.

Feakle/Killanena got one back to put 3 points between the teams and piled the pressure on the Scariff Ogonnelloe backs, but outstanding defending from Una Kavanagh, Anna McNamara and Sarah Skelly kept them at bay, while up front Ciara Treacy and Orla Thornton made the most of the scoring chances by raising two more green flags to put them a goal ahead. Feakle/Killanena finished the half with a point despite the best efforts of Aoibheann O’Gorman.

U14 Championship


Scariff Ogonneloe 1-0 Cratloe 3-4

Cratloe made this three wins out of three games in their Under 14 C championship, and were in control throughout this match played in East Clare. Aoife Healy opened Cratloe’s account when she caught the rebound from an attempt by Caoimhe Healy, hitting it strongly to raise the green flag.

Cratloe  had the wind behind them and were on the attack for most of the first half, with Caoimhe Healy scoring a brace of points from the placed ball, while Sarah Brennan and Chloe Ryan scored a point each. Caoimhe Healy added to her tally before the break with a well hit goal.

The second half was a tamer affair with good defending from both teams. Before the final whistle another goal from Caoimhe Healy and a reply from Scariff saw the final score come to 3-4 to 1-0 in favour of the visitors.
