This summer, 4 teams, each comprising 6 members of Loop Head Rowing Club will undertake a 50 km open-water row around the headland at Loop Head on the Atlantic coast, and up the tidal estuary of Ireland’s longest river, the Shannon.
This is not a routine event. It is physically demanding, weather dependent, and requires careful planning and respect for the sea at every stage.
The club is taking on this feat of endurance to raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis Ireland, specifically to support those living with MS in our community. At its heart, this is a West Clare effort. Every kilometre rowed represents support, awareness, and solidarity.
Over 10,000 people in Ireland are living with MS. In Co. Clare, 205 people are known to MS Ireland, although the true number is likely higher, as not everyone has yet made contact.
MS is a lifelong condition affecting the central nervous system. MS Ireland provides vital support, programmes, and advocacy to those affected, and their families, including counselling, physio, and community outreach.
Funds raised by our event will primarily support services in Co. Clare, while also contributing to the wider Mid-West Region, including Limerick and South Tipperary.
Loop Head Rowing Club was built from the ground up, creating connections, and a shared sense of purpose on the water. They are passionate about Loop Head Peninsula and the community we share it with.

*The event date cannot be confirmed until approximately 5 days before the row takes place. Weather conditions and tides on the Atlantic coast at Loop Head are the deciding factors. It’s hoped the event can be held in July.
