Easyjet flight EZY-3103 was travelling from Glasgow to Malaga and was over County Kilkenny when the crew opted to divert to Shannon. There were 188 passengers and crew on board.

As crew of the Airbus A320-200 jet confirmed they would be making an overweight landing, airport fire crews were deployed to designated holding positions adjacent to the runway in advance of the jet’s arrival. This is standard procedure at Shannon for any aircraft that has dumped fuel or has to land heavier that an aircraft’s maximum design landing weight.

The flight landed safely at around 7.45am and was followed along the runway by emergency vehicles which also accompanied the aircraft to its parking position.

The aircraft was also met at the terminal by airport staff and ambulance paramedics.

The passenger was assessed at the airport by paramedics before being removed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.

The flight continued its journey to Malaga shortly after 9.10am.
