At least 100 additional parking spaces to be sourced in Ennis

Clare County Council and Elected Members from the Municipal District of Ennis have agreed to increase parking availability in Ennis town centre.

A minimum of 100 additional parking spaces will be provided over the next 2 years with up to 500 new off-street parking spaces being targeted on a public private partnership basis by 2022.

The Local Authority has also confirmed the move towards the introduction of a unit charge of €1.00 for parking.

Mayor of Ennis Cllr. Ann Norton said, “At a meeting of Elected Members and Council officials this morning, it was agreed that additional town centre parking spaces were required in Ennis. The lack of parking availability is raised regularly by members of the public and local businesses as an issue and therefore, my colleagues and I are delighted that progress is now being made in this regard.”

“This is only the start of a process that we feel will make the town centre more accessible to all with the benefit of driving new business into the town,” added the Mayor.

Jean McCabe, President of Ennis Chamber, commented, “In a recent Ennis Chamber submission to Clare County Council, we emphasised the need for additional car parking facilities to be provided in the town centre area. The decision to introduce a unit charge of €1.00 per hour parking and the delivery of much needed additional off-street parking spaces is very much welcomed and emphasises the benefits of the Council, Elected Members and the local business community working together.”
