Co.Cork/Clare indie-rockers Diveboy will release their third album In Orbit on Friday, October 2nd – a deeply heartfelt and nostalgic meditation on growing older without growing apart.
Announced with the release of their soaring single ‘Chosen Ones’ (RTÉ 2FM Track of the Week), In Orbit marks a defining reintroduction for Diveboy following their rebrand last year, having previously performed as The Burma.
Following standout performances at All Together Now, Other Voices and Cork City Hall (supporting Feeder) in 2025, members Tony O’Donovan (vocals), Peter Piggott (lead guitar) and Cian Doherty (drums) have stayed true to the sound that has earned them two top 5 albums in the Irish charts, five Homegrown Top 20 singles and a slot at Glastonbury.
The album’s arrival follows extensive support across Irish media (RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ 2FM, SPIN, Hot Press and more) for nostalgic singles ‘Suntrap’, and ‘Glory Days’, the tenderly euphoric ‘Solar Sister and the ever-wistful ‘Built-in Heartbreak’.
At its core, In Orbit is a candid but bittersweet reflection on the transition period between youth and adulthood. An ode to the relationships that define both chapters, Diveboy’s refined, elegant indie sound resonates throughout, helped shaped with renowned producer Ruadhrí Cushnan (Shawn Mendes, Ed Sheeran, Mumford and Sons).
“The album recognises that getting together with friends is suddenly much more special and rare as we get older, and it’s a really bittersweet feeling. Even though you might not have seen a person for some time, the feeling of things picking up exactly where they left off, and you go home with a face sore from laughing, is the spirit the album tries to capture. That magic atmosphere around the table in the pub as you enjoy the company of people you have formed an unbreakable bond with.”
Throughout the album, there is a recurring recognition that past friendships are not to be taken for granted; they call for sacrifice, care, and continued investment to endure. Themes of love, commitment, and sacrifice are intensified through the lens of adulthood, with each track narrating the ebbs and flows with maturity and a defiant air of positivity. The idea of mutual presence becomes both an active force and deep source of comfort, reinforcing a central message of reassurance:

‘Glory Days’ expresses an endeavour to remain youthful as you age by being open minded and accepting rather than through pretentiousness:

‘Suntrap’ and ‘Mercedes Mick’ hold up other people’s lives as a mirror to your own, and observe those who have left a lasting impression on you in just a fleeting moment of your life.
‘Chosen Ones’ leans into the soundtrack of the band’s youth, channeling the anthemic spirit of Madonna, All Saints, and U2, whilst ‘Built-In Heartbreak’ was born from a fond memory in a friend’s back garden, where vocalist O’Donovan became instantly inspired by the poetic phrase, which was coined by Bob Dylan on a radio show in the mid 2000s.
