The lifting of the notice, on the advice of the Health Service Executive, follows completion of a number of remedial works at the treatment plant and the subsequent recording of satisfactory monitoring results.

This notice was put in place by Irish Water and Clare County Council in May of this year due to the detection of low levels of Cryptosporidium in the Carron water supply.

The works carried out at the treatment plant involved the installation of an ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system on the supply.

Customers can now resume normal use of the water supply for drinking, food preparation and brushing teeth.

Aisling Buckley, Regional Information Specialist with Irish Water, commented: “Irish Water and Clare County Council acknowledge the patience, cooperation and assistance of the general public during the period of the Boil Water Notice and greatly regret any inconvenience caused to householders and the business community.”

Irish Water and the Local Authority/Health Service Executive Water Quality Liaison Group will continue to meet and will review ongoing process control, monitoring and testing of the drinking water supply

A Boil Water Notice that was put in place on the Turlough Water Supply in North Clare in July remains in place. This supply serves 304 premises in the area. Residents served by this supply should continue to boil water before using it for drinking, preparing uncooked food, brushing teeth or making ice.

Irish Water and Clare County Council will continue to liaise closely with the Health Service Executive with a view to lifting this Boil Water Notice as soon as possible.
The Irish Water Customer Contact Centre (1850 278 278) is available to answer customer queries in relation to this water notice.
