The Irish Heart Foundation estimates that sudden cardiac death (SCD) kills more than 5,000 people in Ireland each year, including around 100 people under the age of 35.
Their message is clear, we need more defibrillators so one local health and fitness club in Ennis has answered that call.
Ozone Health and Fitness, based in the Quin Road Business Park, recently upgraded their automated external defibrillator (AED) and has extended an open invitation to the local community and businesses to avail of this life saving equipment should the need arise.
Ozone manager, Mike Hogan, explains why they invested in a defib and are making it available to the community of Ennis, “there’s a great saying – those who have the ability to do more, have the responsibility to do more. The people of Ennis have been great to us and we want to give back. If having this available saved one life then it’s worth it”
With one of the longest opening hours of most businesses in town and certainly the Quin Road Business Park, Mr Hogan feels they can give people peace of mind if they are looking for help “ We are open 7 days a week and from 7am to 10pm Monday to Friday, and also Saturdays and Sundays for a shorter period. We hope no one ever has to use it but should it ever happen it’s on their doorstep. We just want to get the word out there and make people aware that it is here for them to use”
Ozone Health and Fitness have been operating for 11 years this year and is owned by local businessman, Ken O Malley. Mr O Malley has extended a warm invitation to all Business Operators in the Quin Rd to come down and see where the AED is installed and introduce yourselves to the dedicated team of Fitness Professionals on site who are fully trained in its use.
