ESB’s Moneypoint Power Station has awarded funding of almost €44,000 to Clare-based community and voluntary organisations as part of the first round of its Wind Farm Community Fund.
The award recipients include:
Gaelscoil Ui Choimin
Kilballyowen Development Company
Mullagh Parish Hall
Burrane National School
Burrane Cemetery Maintenance Group
Kilrush Community Garden
Kilrush GAA Club
Kilrush District Hospital
Killimer Local History Group
Kilmihil Active Retirement Association
Killimer GAA Club
Three of the recipients, including Killimer GAA Club, have received multi-annual commitments from the fund, spanning up to four years, to facilitate the development and implementation of larger-scale community projects.
Eve Brennan, Secretary of Killimer GAA Club, commented: “The funding received from the Moneypoint Wind Farm Community Fund will enable us to begin and make good progress with a project the club has had for some time; the upgrade of our existing club house. The upgrade will comprise of an extension including referees changing room, store room area and male/female toilets. These new and improved facilities will mean our club members, and players can enjoy greater security and use of equipment we previously couldn’t house in the existing building. The project will benefit not only Killimer GAA Club, but the local athletics clubs and other visitors with whom we work in collaboration.”
The funding is a part of the recently launched Moneypoint Wind Farm Community Fund, which aims to provide financial support to local groups, helping them to deliver beneficial projects and initiatives which fall within one or more of our broad themes:
Education and Skills
Health, Safety and Wellbeing
Environment and Habitat Conservation
Energy Efficiency and Sustainability
Culture and Heritage
Recreation, Sport and Social Inclusion
Kevin Harrington, Health, Safety and Environmental Manager at ESB’s Moneypoint Wind Farm, added: “ESB Moneypoint has been intertwined with the local communities around the station since we commenced operations in the early 1980s. We remain committed to creating a brighter future for all by being a good neighbour and supporting the communities we operate in. Through our Moneypoint Wind Farm Community Fund, we aim to contribute to the development of local projects and services for the benefit of all local people.”
The community fund will be made available every year for the operational lifetime of the wind farm (i.e. 20+ years) and we welcome all applications from interested organisations.
