Plans to use a unit of the Shannon Free Zone to accommodate International Protection Applicants has been shelved.
Clare Independent TD Michael McNamara has received confirmation from government that the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth has released its interest in Unit 153 in Shannon Business Park.
The decision was confirmed to Deputy McNamara this afternoon by Joe O’Brien TD, Minister of State for Integration.

In June 2023, the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth said it was seeking to refit the building for emergency accommodation.
