Businesses in the Francis Street and Friary Car Park area of Ennis have been left without water this morning.

Clare County Council crews have identified the location of a burst water main and work has begun to repair the problem.

Uisce Éireann has confirmed that repairs to a burst watermain may cause supply disruptions to Francis Street, Ennis and surrounding areas.

“Works are scheduled to take place until 5pm on 3 August. We recommend that you allow 3-4 hours after the estimated restoration time for your supply to fully return,” the utility has said.

Most businesses can continue to operate however those in the hospitality sector are experiencing difficulties. While able to continue to serve food, some cafés are unable to provide coffee or tea to customers.

Clare County Council staff are currently working on the issue on Francis Street where a stop/go traffic management system has been implemented.
