2013 All-Ireland winning medallist Colin Ryan is joining the Clare Oscar Traynor squad for their upcoming campaign.

Manager Donie Garrihy announced a thirty two man provisional squad on Thursday of last week. A source close to the management revealed that Ryan who lines out with Newmarket Celtic confirmed that “he will be committing to soccer” as they begin the defence of the Oscar Traynor title. This now brings the amount of players on Garrihy’s squad to thirty three.

Colin was the top scorer in an unforgettable 2013 championship as Clare claimed their fourth ever All-Ireland title. There was widespread criticism when the Limerick based secondary school teacher was not awarded with an All-Star as a result of his displays for his County three years ago. In his youth he went on trial with a number of English clubs but declined contracts sent his way.

With the search for Davy Fitzgerald’s successor as Clare Senior Hurling manager underway it remains to be seen if the incoming manager will allow dual-roles for 2017. Cratloe’s Podge Collins has indicated that he will be only focusing on one sport for the Banner County next year.

It is expected that the Newmarket-on-Fergus will operate as a dual-player for the coming season.
