Duo to paddle River Shannon for Parkinson’s Ireland

Two friends are preparing to take on an extraordinary endurance challenge this month as they paddle the length of the River Shannon to raise funds for the Midwest Branch of Parkinson’s Ireland.

From June 12th to June 21st, Trevor and Mike will embark on their “Paddling for Parkinson’s” fundraiser, travelling from the source of the Shannon in Co. Cavan all the way to the sea across a demanding 10 day journey of canoeing and camping.

The challenge aims to raise vital funds and awareness for Parkinson’s Ireland and the thousands of people and families across Ireland living with Parkinson’s.

Speaking ahead of the challenge, Trevor said the fundraiser is deeply personal: “Throughout every mile, I will be thinking of my mom and the many people I know fighting this condition. We wanted to do something meaningful that would both challenge us and help raise awareness and support for Parkinson’s Ireland.”

Over the course of the journey, the pair will travel through multiple counties and communities along the River Shannon, facing unpredictable weather conditions and long days on the water.

Funds raised from the challenge will support the work of the Midwest Branch of Parkinson’s Ireland, helping to provide exercise classes, support groups, information services and community supports for people living with Parkinson’s and their families.

Parkinson’s is the second most common neurological condition in Ireland, affecting approximately 18,000 people nationwide.

Parkinson’s Ireland is encouraging members of the public to follow Trevor and Mike’s journey and support the fundraiser online.
