Clare artist Marie Connole will exhibit a new series of paintings inspired by shape shifting in Irish storytelling at Clare Museum from today (September 4th).
The show, which is supported by the Clare County Council Arts Office, will run for three weeks and will be complemented by a free public talk by the artist at 6.30 pm on Friday 22 September as part of Culture Night 2017.
The title of the exhibition and talk is “Therianthropy”, the word used to describe the mythological ability of human beings to metamorphose into other animals by means of shape shifting.
Marie Connole is an artist and teacher from Clare. Earlier this year her solo exhibition ‘As Above So Below’ featured for six months at the Irish Arts Center in New York City. She has been involved in several public art commissions and has exhibited in the National Gallery of Ireland, EVA International, Tulca, The Science Gallery TCD and Draiocht Arts Centre. Her paintings feature in public and private collections and she has received several awards.
