Man dies after fall from a seawall in Kinvara

A man has died after he was seriously injured in a fall from a seawall in Co Galway overnight.

At around midnight, emergency services were alerted to an incident in Kinvara where a person was reported to have fallen from a height.

Emergency services were alerted including the National Ambulance Service; Doolin (Clare) unit of the Irish Coast Guard; crews from Galway Fire and Rescue Service from Gort station and Gardaí.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, is understood to have fallen accidentally several metres from the seawall onto the rocky shore below. The tragedy occurred on the main N67 route opposite the local secondary school.

Ambulance paramedics were able to reach the casualty by walking along the shoreline about 100 metres to the scene. Despite efforts to save the man, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s body was later recovered from the scene by fire service and Coast Guard personnel and later removed by hearse to University Hospital Galway where a postmortem examination will be carried out.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed: “Gardaí and emergency services attended an incident in Kinvara, Co. Galway in the early hours of this morning, Sunday, 14th June 2026.

It was reported that a male fell from a height near the shoreline.  The male, aged in his 30s, was pronounced deceased at the scene and his body has been removed to University Hospital Galway where a postmortem will take place.”

Meanwhile, the Killaloe unit of the Irish Coast Guard was tasked to assist other agencies with a medical emergency in East Clare last night.

The team was requested to assist the National Ambulance Service in responding to an incident involving a casualty in Ballycuggeran.

Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Killaloe station and volunteers from the CRITICAL Killaloe-Ballina Community First Responders group also responded to the scene.
